Here are a few photos from the season 8 opener for the Rat City Rollergirls. This was my first time shooting a RCRG bout, and I have to admit that I am hooked! I’ve only ever watched the bouts from the stands, so it was pretty awesome to be sitting 5 feet away from the skaters and having a pretty sweet view. It’s very different than shooting banked track, where I can get right up next to the skaters, but this is no less exciting and fun to shoot. Between Rat City and Tilted Thunder, my derby shooting schedule for this year is pretty packed!
You can see the complete set of bout photos on Facebook, Google+, and my website.

We got some snow in Seattle today. It’s pretty, but it’s freaking cold outside.

We had a big New Year’s Eve party at our place with old and new friends. There was more booze than we could possibly drink. We had a photo booth set up with masks, wigs, and other fun props. I took a ton of pictures (of course). And we all just had a fun evening hanging out, laughing, eating, drinking, and being silly.
And with this photo, my Project 365 comes to a close. It’s been a great year for my photography. While my Project 365 wasn’t my best project (I admit that I was going through the motions for a good portion of it), I did get a lot of great photo gigs and produced some images I’m very proud to share.
I don’t think I’ll be doing another 365 project this year, but I will still shoot and post fairly regularly. After doing 4 years of daily shooting and posting, I need a break. Who knows. Maybe I’ll start another crazy project later this year.

Here are a few samples from my recent photo shoot with Grave Danger of the Rat City Rollergirls. It was a kind of a crazy shoot, because everything (setup, testing, shooting, break down) was done in less than 2 hours in the backstage area at Comcast Arena just before Jingle Bell Brawl with the Tilted Thunder Rail Birds. We really blitzed through the photo shoot, but I’m very happy with how everything turned out.
You can see more photos from the session on Facebook and Google+.
I spent most of the day retouching photos from my portrait session with Grave Danger. This is the first job I’m doing on my new MacBook Pro, and I am amazed at how snappy everything is. Lightroom is fast. Photoshop is fast. They’re both fast when running at the same time. I love new computers.
